Deep Creek Yacht Club was founded in 1937, and had its first facility in a Sears  Roebuck building on Turkey Neck until a more permanent facility could be built . In 1965, some members decided to  organize a new club at Deerhaven which would offer residential facilities for their members. They took the name with them to Deerhaven, so the Turkey Neck  sailing club reorganized as DeepCreek Lake Sailing Association (DCLSA), also known as Deep Creek Yacht-Club at Turkey Neck (DCYC-TN). The DCLSA remodeled its building , floating docks, and parking area several times as its membership crew.
There are about 186 DCLSA memberships at this time [2011-2012].  Clubhouse work is on a volunteer basis that encourages teamwork resulting in an outstanding facility.  Management of the affairs of the Association is by a Board of Governors in accordance with Bylaws and Operating Instructions; DCLSA standing committees handle the various challenges of an operating sailing club. Social events are planned for most summer weekends.
It is the purpose of DCLSA "to promote sailing and competitive racing on Deep Creek Lake".  Races are scheduled each summer weekend by the Deep Creek Yacht Racing Association (DCYRA) for Flying Scots and Lasers; the DCYRA racing includes five multi-day regattas.  Racing boats can be viewed on DCL south of the Glendale Bridge.
In 1993, Deep Creek Sailing School (DCSS), supported by both Yacht Clubs, was formed; it operates from the DCLSA clubhouse and provides a pipeline for new memberships in both Clubs.  Every summer, sailing classes for children and adults, as well as private sailing lessons, are taught in Optimist Prams, Lasers, and Flying Scots by US Sailing certified instructors.  Informal sailboat races on Wednesday evenings are sponsored by the DCSS, the races are well attended, and they lead to a friendly pot-luck meal at the DCLSA clubhouse following the races.
